Bethany Baptized

 WHAT A WEEK! My heart is very full. I really cannot say the smallest part that I feel!

It was a beautiful beautiful week. Our Bethany entered the waters of baptism this Sunday! And despite all the efforts of the adversary, that manifested as very cold water tehe, she took it like a champ and was baptized. I love that girl. The whole branch pulled up which fills my soul. It was a HAPPY DAY! Seeing everyone hug her at the end made me smile so big. And seeing one of our dear elderly sisters poke a friend of ours who came and say "you're next!" with the most sincere mischievous giggle... I love this branch.
President also flew down in his helicopter to come, we felt like the coolest cats in town.

The work
I am growing a lot out here. Learning a lot. Missionary work is harder than I thought, and so much more deep and lovely and complex than I expected. I truly love it is the truth! The hard parts make us grow- that simple truth has been my world these last five weeks. God is good.

Funnies
I'll miss these people. A man drove up to throw a newspaper at our friend's house, and we thought he was driving a mail car with the wheel on the right side- UNTIL we walked up and realized that this man was sitting in the right seat, with his arm holding the wheel-- he was driving from the other side. His only explanation was "long legs, sweetheart." We laughed in complete shock, it was so funny. Never thought that I would be in such beautiful weirdness as I've experienced here. They are deeply good and I am so grateful for them.

I am down to one week left in this beautiful place. I could not be more excited for this next chapter, and could not be more happy about the time I have spent here.

To my people that are hurting:
1 Nephi 4:1 And it came to pass that I spake unto my brethren, saying: Let us go up again unto Jerusalem, and let us be faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; for behold he is mightier than all the earth, then why not mightier than Laban and his fifty, yea, or even than his tens of thousands?

Whatever you're facing- whatever is keeping you from feeling the peace that you have felt before. I promise that your Heavenly Father knows! He knows the exact feeling of your heart, knows it well enough that He can overcome it. He is the only one that really knows what will heal your heart. He is mightier. This simple principle has become a powerful mantra in my head and heart out here- I promise that it can do the same for you. I invite each or you to read this verse and replace Jerusalem with your own seemingly impossible tasks, and replace Laban and his fifty with whatever you are facing. Read it as if it is talking about you! Let me know how it goes if you would. What you feel. I would love to hear it.

I love you all! I love this place, I love this work, and I love my Savior. GOD IS GOOD!

Farhad, Kungsbacka, Elder Child??

After hearing about a conversation between my dear Grandma Jan and now elder Child that consisted of her saying "Derek, you need to be better than your sister at writing emails," I've vowed to be ännu bättre. Oh my things are good good. ANNIE IS HOME. My best friend in the world. She did it! I just smiled and cried watchin the videos of her huggin Jana. Dreamed of our missions since we were little and now her adventure is done. Where to start. It's been two weeks. - Pontus came to zone conference and loved it! Took notes the whole time. There was a lot of talk about purpose-- he said afterward that he feels like his purpose is "kind of like you guys- a missionary, basically." It was special. He is getting baptized THIS SUNDAY! After so long working for it. Please please please please pray for him this week- he is more converted than anyone I know, but satan is working hard because of it. - Mikael in Lund got baptized!!!! Our kind-eyed deaf friend. I heard that the second counselor who baptized him learned the whole baptismal prayer in swedish sign language. Mikael's story is evidence to me that the Spirit works! Hallå! It has been a wonderful wonderful week. Many beautiful moments. A quick update and thought! I am still waiting on a visa, so will be serving in the Tennessee Nashville mission starting next week! Truly could not be more excited, and I mean that. The tender mercies of the Lord have been abundant in getting me here, and with an abundance of peace. God is very good. My sweet companions made me stand up and read my call and made a video- the whole shebang. Oh I love them. TENDER MERCIES. They are everywhere. My challenge to you, which I was prompted to do and has blessed my days- is to write down the ones you see every day. Simply write down the beautiful moments! Read this week about how they are not coincidences, and I believe it. "I testify that the tender mercies of the Lord are real and that they do not occur randomly or merely by coincidence."
